چکیده

Abstract. The interior of the Earth is heterogeneous with different material and may have complex geometry. The free surface can also be uneven. Therefore, the use of a meshless method with the possibility of using and irregular grid-point distribution can be interest for modelling this kind of problem. This paper shows the application of Generalized Finite Difference Method (GFDM) to the problem of seismic wave propagation in 2-D. To use this method in unbounded domains one must truncate the computational grid-point avoiding reflection from the edges. Perfectly Matched Layers (PML) absorbing boundary condition has then been included in the numerical model proposed in this work.

A Variational Formulation of a Stabilized Unsplit Convolutional Perfectly Matched Layer for The Isotropic or Anisotropic Seismic Wave Equation

In the context of the numerical simulation of seismic wave propagation, the perfectly matched layer (PML) absorbing boundary condition has proven to be efficient to absorb surface waves as well as body waves with non grazing incidence. But unfortunately the classical discrete PML generates spurious modes traveling and growing along the absorbing layers in the case of waves impinging the boundar...

To evaluate the earth seismic response due to earthquake effects, ground response analyses are used to predict ground surface motions for development of design response spectra, to compute dynamic stresses and strains for evaluation of liquefaction hazards, and to determine the earthquake induced forces that can lead to instability of earth and earth-retaining structures. Perfectly Matched Layers equations for 3D acoustic wave propagation in heterogeneous media

This work is dedicated to the analysis of Berenger PML method applied to the 3D linearized Euler equations without advection terms, with variable wave velocity and acoustic impedance. It is an extension of a previous work presented in a 2D context [8]. The 3D linearized Euler equations are used to simulate propagation of acoustic waves beneath the subsurface. We propose an analysis of these equ...

The application of the perfectly matched layer in numerical modeling of wave propagation in poroelastic media

The perfectly matched layer (PML) was first introduced by Berenger as a material absorbing boundary condition (ABC) for electromagnetic waves. In this paper, a method is developed to extend the perfectly matched layer to simulating seismic wave propagation in poroelastic media. This nonphysical material is used at the computational edge of a finite-difference algorithm as an ABC to truncate unb...

Nearly perfectly matched layer method for seismic wave propagation in poroelastic media

The nearly perfectly matched layer (NPML) method has been successfully applied to electromagnetic and elastodynamic wave equations including elastic isotropic and anisotropic media types to absorb spurious arrivals reflected from introduced boundaries in a number of numerical solution methods. It has been shown to be extremely satisfactory for this purpose. In this paper, a first-order velocity...
